$591.6 Million order

The U.S. Army Contracting Command – Detroit Arsenal (ACC-DTA) announced that it has awarded Oshkosh Defense, a wholly owned subsidiary of Oshkosh Corporation, a $591.6 Million order for 1,669 Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTV), 868 companion trailers, and associated packaged and installed kits.

The order includes Oshkosh Defense JLTVs for the U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Air Force, and U.S. Navy. As part of the order, 125 vehicles will also be delivered to NATO and allied partners, including Brazil, Lithuania, Montenegro, and Slovenia.

Since winning the competitive JLTV contract in 2015, Oshkosh Defense has built over 14,000 JLTVs, and that number continues to grow every day.

International momentum surrounding the Oshkosh Defense JLTV also continues to grow as customers seek a light tactical vehicle with lethal capabilities, fleet commonality attributes, and design flexibility.

The order includes Oshkosh JLTVs, trailers and kits for the U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Air Force, and U.S. Navy, as well as NATO allies Lithuania, North Macedonia, Slovenia, and Romania.

Since winning the competitive JLTV contract in 2015, Oshkosh has built over 12,500 JLTVs, fielded vehicles to over 40 U.S. and international military installations, and received commitments from 8 NATO, Allied, and Coalition partners.

«We’ve spent over 10 years developing our vehicle, followed by nearly six years of manufacturing the vehicle in both low rate and full rate production», said George Mansfield, Vice President and General Manager of Joint Programs, Oshkosh Defense. «We’ve refined the manufacturing process, matured our robust supply chain, and fulfilled the light tactical vehicle capability gap in 8 additional countries with our proven platform. No one else can say that. And we have no plans to stop building the Oshkosh JLTV anytime soon».

The U.S. Army recently increased Oshkosh’s option ceiling under the current contract from 18,170 to 23,163 vehicles to support critical missions worldwide.

In May, the North Macedonia Minister of Defense, Radmila Sekerinska, was able to ride in the JLTV for the first time. Sekerinska later tweeted, «These new American-made light armored vehicles will become part of the Army facilities. Today at Krivolak, we were convinced of their exceptional performance. This is what our Army looks like in NATO».

Later in June, the Slovenian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Matej Tonin remarked at a JLTV acceptance ceremony, «Modernization of the Slovenian Army has finally begun. With the new light armored vehicles Oshkosh 4×4, our Soldiers will be more successful and safer in tasks at home and abroad».

To date, Oshkosh has received orders or commitments from the following NATO, Allied, and Coalition partners including the United Kingdom, Belgium, Montenegro, Slovenia, Lithuania, Brazil, Romania, and North Macedonia.

Infantry Carrier Vehicle

The U.S. Army announced on June 3, 2021 the award of the six-year requirements contract to Oshkosh Defense, LLC for the production and fielding of the Medium Caliber Weapons System (MCWS) for up to six Stryker Brigades. The first delivery order is for 91 vehicles valued at approximately $130 million, with a total potential contract value of $942 million over six-years.

«The MCWS Program of Record leverages upgrades and improvements from the Stryker Double V-Hull A1 Infantry Carrier Vehicle and lessons learned from the Stryker 2nd Cavalry Regiment Operational Needs Statement fielding», said Brigadier General Glenn Dean, the Army’s program executive officer for Ground Combat Systems. «It also incorporates real-time input from industry partners to provide state-of-the-art direct-fire lethality on a proven Stryker platform».

The MCWS is a 30-mm, unmanned turreted auto-cannon integrated on a Stryker DVHA1 Infantry Carrier Vehicle.

It builds upon the Army’s investment in maturing a 30mm weapon system, and the selection comes after completion of a robust competitive best value formal source selection, evaluating each competitor’s ability to meet technical and production requirements.

«The Army recognizes and appreciates the tremendous efforts and investments from the defense industrial base, partnering defense organizations and other industry partners contributing to the MCWS program», said Dean.

The evaluation of technical performance was achieved using production representative bid samples that vendors submitted for Government testing at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland.

In May 2019, the Army awarded five Design Integration Study (DIS) contracts and provided a Stryker Double V-Hull A1 Infantry Carrier Vehicle and XM813 cannon as Government-furnished equipment to contractors in order to facilitate industry design efforts and foster competition.

The MCWS procurement was a full and open competition with a tiered requirements strategy. The outcome represents a best-value balance of cost, schedule and performance.

Major features of the Stryker MCWS include the ability to transport nine infantry Soldiers and three crewmembers, and the integration of XM813 cannon onto a Stryker DVHA1 Infantry Carrier Vehicle platform allowing for programmable airburst ammunition compatibility through dual feed ammunition handling system, improved optics and extended direct-fire range over the current 30-mm temporary ONS solution.

Manufacturing of the MWCS will be performed in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, with deliveries beginning 12 months after award. The first Army unit will be equipped with the Stryker MCWS beginning in Fiscal Year 2023.

Cold Weather Vehicle

Oshkosh Defense, LLC, an Oshkosh Corporation company, announced on April 5, 2021, that the National Advanced Mobility Consortium (NAMC) has selected Oshkosh Defense and partner, ST Engineering, to participate in the prototype phase for the U.S. Army’s Cold Weather All-Terrain Vehicle (CATV).

The CATV is a new program for a tracked vehicle that operates in extreme cold weather or arctic conditions and is designed to replace the Small Unit Support Vehicles (SUSVs) that have been in service since the early 1980s.

«Oshkosh Defense and ST Engineering bring together an abundance of defense industry and manufacturing expertise to address the U.S. Army’s need for a proven vehicle that can easily maneuver in arctic environments», said Pat Williams, vice president and general manager of U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps programs. «We are confident that the Oshkosh CATV will enable Soldiers to efficiently move personnel and supplies in the most extreme conditions, and we look forward to getting them into the hands of the end user for testing and evaluation».

The Oshkosh CATV is derived from the Bronco 3, a member of the proven, highly effective, and reliable Bronco Family of Vehicles (FoV) by ST Engineering which have been in service in various countries. The Bronco FoV has undergone more than 1,860 miles/2,993 km of performance testing in arctic conditions as well as over 200,000 miles/321,869 km in a theatre of operations on harsh desert terrain. The Oshkosh CATV prototypes will offer built-in mission modularity to accommodate a variety of configurations. A General Purpose vehicle, for example, can be used as a troop carrier, casualty evacuation (CASEVAC) or Command and Control vehicle and can be swapped from one configuration to another in the field within 30 minutes by a two-person crew.

«The new vehicle design will be built with the combined expertise of Oshkosh Defense and draws on the rich heritage of the Bronco family of vehicles, a proven, robust and versatile articulated platform which has been in operation since 2001», said Lee Shiang Long, President/Head, Land Systems, ST Engineering.

Oshkosh Defense and ST Engineering will deliver two prototypes – one General Purpose and one Cargo vehicle for testing and Soldier evaluation in Q3FY21. The prototypes will be evaluated on payload, mobility, crush resistance, swimming, and transportability. The U.S. Army has announced plans to issue a follow-on production contract for up to 200 CATVs in FY22.

10,000th JLTV

This significant milestone represents over a decade of proprietary experience in designing, building, and delivering the world’s most capable light tactical vehicle. Since the program was awarded to Oshkosh Defense in August 2015, the company has built a robust, dependable supply chain; optimized its manufacturing process and maximized efficiencies; and provided JLTVs at a contractual price substantially lower than the Government cost estimate.

«This milestone is a true testament to the pride and dedication that our team members have in the JLTV program which has become a central piece of the U.S. military’s ground force», said George Mansfield, Vice President and General Manager of Joint Programs for Oshkosh Defense. «Producing the 10,000th JLTV in under five years is further evidence of our ability to meet the demands of our domestic and international customers by providing the world’s most capable light tactical vehicle at a great price. To date, Oshkosh Defense has received orders for 18,126 JLTVs for a total contract value over $6 Billion. Over 6,500 of those vehicles have been fielded with Warfighters around the globe, including over 30 U.S. and international military installations.

International interest in the Oshkosh Defense JLTV also continues to grow. Oshkosh Defense has received orders or commitments from seven NATO and non-NATO allies including United Kingdom, Belgium, Montenegro, Slovenia, Lithuania, Brazil, and North Macedonia.

Light Tactical Vehicles

Oshkosh Defense, LLC, an Oshkosh Corporation company, announced on December 1, 2020 the U.S. Army Contracting Command, Detroit Arsenal has placed an order for 2,738 Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTV), 1,001 companion trailers, and associated kits. The Oshkosh Defense JLTVs will be supplied to the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, and U.S. Air Force along with a select group of NATO and non-NATO allies. This is the second largest order of Oshkosh Defense JLTVs, with a contract value of $911 million.

Oshkosh Defense, LLC, an Oshkosh Corporation company, announced on July 1, 2020 that the U.S. Army Contracting Command, Detroit Arsenal has placed an order for 248 Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTVs) and associated kits.

Today’s announced order is valued at $127 million and includes vehicles for the U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps and the Department of State.

«The JLTV was designed to provide our troops with unmatched mission capabilities», said George Mansfield, vice president and general manager of joint programs for Oshkosh Defense. «And while adversaries, terrains, and tactics have all evolved immensely since the vehicle’s conception, the JLTV’s flexible design allows the light tactical vehicle fleet to evolve at a similar pace».

One such example of the JLTV’s flexibility, is its capability to accept any number of advances in weapons, lasers, sensors, networking, and communications.

To date, Oshkosh has successfully integrated multiple weapons on the JLTV such as Remote Weapon Systems up to 30-mm, anti-tank missile systems, anti-aircraft missile systems, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) systems, and Counter-UAV systems. These systems on the JLTV offer both the protection and the highly reliable defense technologies needed for troops to defeat near-peer adversaries.

Over 7,500 total vehicles have been delivered to the U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Air Force, and U.S. Navy since the production contract was awarded in 2015. Additionally, foreign interest in the JLTV continues to grow. Several NATO countries have publicly expressed interest in procuring the vehicle, including Lithuania, Slovenia, United Kingdom, and Montenegro.

Trailers for the JLTV

Oshkosh Defense, LLC, an Oshkosh Corporation company, announced today that it has been awarded a $61.8M modification from the U.S. Army Contracting Command, Detroit Arsenal to increase available trailer options under the current Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) Family of Vehicles contract from 32 to 3,541.

The JLTV-T was designed as an integral part of the JLTV Family of Vehicles, providing the same superior off-road performance and durability.

Oshkosh Defense, LLC, an Oshkosh Corporation company, announced on March 30, 2020 that it has been awarded delivery orders totaling $346.4 million from the U.S. Army Contracting Command – Warren to modernize vehicles in the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserve Heavy Tactical Vehicle (FHTV) fleets.

Under the delivery orders, Oshkosh will recapitalize Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Trucks (HEMTT) and Palletized Load System (PLS) trucks as well as manufacture new PLS trailers.

The FHTV fleet is designed to accommodate many mission packages, allowing it to support multi-domain operations as the battlefield continues to evolve.

Recapitalized vehicles are rebuilt with the latest technology and safety upgrades and quickly returned to field operations with the same warranty and life cycle cost advantages of a new vehicle. Since 1995, Oshkosh Defense has recapitalized over 13,700 HEMTTs and 3,400 PLS vehicles.

This order includes JLTVs for the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC), Slovenia and Lithuania and kits for the U.S. Army, USMC, Slovenia and Lithuania.

The Oshkosh JLTV is the only light tactical vehicle with the protection and extreme off-road mobility to maneuver with combat formations against great power adversaries. The vehicle’s digital architecture allows incorporation of advances in weapons, lasers, sensors, networking, and communications. It is designed to meet the requirements for the threats faced today and the decades to come.

Additionally, foreign interest in the highly capable JLTV platform continues to grow. The award includes orders for JLTVs to Slovenia and JLTVs to Lithuania through the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) process.
